Clean, seamless, modern gender-reversal version of P&P. It was fun connecting the people in this book with those of the original. It was also interesting to see how the author would translate the actions/behaviors of the original characters to those of his book. Considering the differences between our current society and 18-19th century England, he did an admirable job of creating recognizable characters that were just as annoying or intriguing, in similar ways, to those of Jane Austen. He did it well, and relevantly. Even if you're don't know P&P, this story, and the people in it, are real and enjoyable.

That Girl Darcy A Pride and Prejudice Story eBook James Ramos Reviews

I love the idea to switch roles and make Elizabeth Bennett a boy and Darcy a girl. It was fun to read and see some things from a guy's perspective. I was a skeptic at first, but I enjoyed reading this!
As a huge Austen and P and P fan, I was not disappointed. I was not sure about switching the genders of the characters but dove right in. The book was a great new spin and modern way of retelling my favorite classic book. I laughed and cried just like when reading the orginal. Loved it, loved it, loved it! If you are a P and P fan please read this book it is a treat!
Gender-swapped, current-day retelling of Pride and Prejudice? Yes, please! The characters are so awesome, and Elliot and Darcy are so so great! The parallels between Austen's classic and this are well thought out and interesting, and the whole story is filled with wit and charm. I thoroughly enjoyed it and recommend to everyone!
This was a fun YA read. I loved the gender-swap concept and I laughed out loud a bunch of times. The dialogue was hit or miss for me though- sometimes it flowed perfectly and other times it felt too formal and stilted for contemporary YA. Otherwise, a great read.
A sweet retelling of pride and ptejudice in reverse where the female Jane Austen characters are now boys and the male characters are now girls. Even though you know what will happen in the famous story it is still enjoyable to see how the story pans out and how the characters interact.
I have a thing for Pride & Prejudice re-imagined and this gender-swapped Lizzie and Darcy (now Darcy and Elliott) does not disappoint! I have read dozens upon dozens and thought I had read it all, but this book is refreshingly well-written and has a fun gender spin. All of the characters from the original are here and it easy to figure out how the new characters translate. Of course, being set in high school, the balls from P&P become dances and homecoming. But the author adds some smart new ways for our characters to interact, like the school paper and semester play. I appreciate that he made the Jane, Mary, Kitty, and Lydia characters friends of Elliott, instead of his siblings. Having them all roughly the same age makes for a smoother update. I feel the characters are believable as teenagers, especially in the way they hang out and talk about seemingly nothing, and I felt Elliott's uncertainty about college and his future. This is a really well-done update of P&P that can stand on it's own. Who knows, it might even make some readers seek out the original.
I picked this book up intrigued with the gender-swapped retelling of one of my favorite books. It turned out to be a fun, YA read. As mentioned in other reviews, some of the male side characters' conversation were on the line for me, but I think this derived from Ramos' interpretation of Lydia in Austen's P&P.

I won't go over the storyline because most know it, and other reviewers have covered it, but I will share my favorite part. I loved the fieldtrip scene between Elliott and Darcy. Especially the hanging lights room. I loved the discovery that happens here.

Over all, it was an easy, fun read. Both main characters grow and have that ah-ha moment. They don't get all the answers but they realize their potential.
