Like the synopsis states, this is a re-imagining of the classic fairy tale 'Little Red Riding Hood' complete with a girl named Scarlet, a grandmother, a couple of hunky cousins and it is set in the middle of a snow storm in rural Indiana. I loved the setting and the descriptions. It was so perfect to read this time of year. I could really see the characters gathering wood for the fire, tossing some kindling on the flames and cuddling under the blankets...made me want to be snowed in somewhere...maybe without werewolves though.;)

The premise is fairly simple and the story is both plot and character driven. Although I enjoyed it, it wasn't a completely page turning (or clicking in my case) read. Maybe it is due to the busyness of the season but I found parts of the story to be slower than others and therefore was able to pull myself away periodically...at least until the last few chapters. The story really picked up towards the end and I wanted to know more about the characters and what happened next.

Another aspect that I thought was cool was the chapter titles. So many books today don't have them and I got a kick out of reading the titles like "What Big Eyes You Have" and "There was a Dear Little Girl". I also thought the author was very clever in the naming of her characters as with 'Scarlet' (Little Red) and I loved the poetry the author wrote for her character, Aiden.

Overall, I really liked Silverweed and would recommend it to anyone wanting a bit of fun reading.

I liked the twist in the book. I hope for another book. The ending isn't the end but left open for another book.
This book is an entertaining riff on Little Red Riding Hood that uses the fairy tale as a jumping off point for something entirely new and different. If it weren't for the chapter headings, I wouldn't even have known it was based on the fairy tale. It stands on its own as a riveting story of engaging, and realistically flawed, modern teens who find themselves in a situation where they have to deal with a supernatural threat... and with each other. It's a toss up as to who, or what, is the bad guy. I don't want to ruin it for anyone, so you'll just have to check out this wonderful little book (an easy weekend read) to find out how the author turns "Little Red" topsy turvy. I highly recommend it.
Dark tale about a superstitious family with a dark secret. Somehow it all works out okay in the end. Brilliant!
I plan on recommending this book to my 14 year old nephew. I think he will enjoy it,even more than than I did. It is a great YA read.
This book was delightfully spooky! I enjoyed it very much and it held my attention. The only flaw I found with it was the character of Scarlet. She was too abrasive for my liking and I found myself hoping she'd go away. Even in the end, she didn't seem to change much after everything she went through. Still, it was an enjoyable story and a good retelling of Red Riding Hood.
Don't let the fact that this is based on Little Red Riding Hood keep you from reading this. I doubt you will see much of the original story in this other than chapter titles. The girl Scarlet,well, I just wanted to slap the crap out of her through most of the story, I think she was more monster than the werewolves. Very well written story.
Diesel, his girlfriend Scarlet, and his cousin Aiden are snowed in, trapped with a weregranny upstairs.
Great spin on Little Red Riding Hood. Would be completely terrifying having the big bad wolf trying to kill you from the inside out. The wolf is the beast trapped inside you once you have been bitten and the only hope you, and the people that surround you, of surviving is to try not to lose your mind to the beast. Silverweed is the only solution that has been found to help granny not lose herself completely. But what if granny didn't get her silverweed?
I loved all the characters. Scarlett was so annoying though, I just wanted her to hurry up and get killed off, but she did grow on me. She was selfish and controlling at first, but that just seemed to be because she had no control over her own life. Aiden was my absolute favorite and I hope he gets a full length book of his own one day.
I had no idea what was going to happen to who next. Great spins. Great characters.
